Conflict

The ground looked like dirt-caked steel,
Waves clashed with an earthquake feel,
They formed and broke without an end,
Neither should, could, would ever mend,

The essence of war raged deep inside,
None of them were able to hide,
Fighting death to bloody fate,
Evading the torpid grip of hate,

Everyone scared, his mind marked with evil,
Sides surging in this violent upheaval,
Hearts overflowing with animosity,
Minds with no place for generosity,
—only hate,

Broken blades fly through the air,
Reflecting the sun’s hate-red glare,
The sky is clouded by fetid vapor,
Marring the surface like inked paper,

Rain poured from the sky like tiny rockets,
And fell to earth leaving massive pockets,
Projectiles began to spread acrid gas,
Waves crashed on each other, none able to pass,

Tears are shed for those now gone,
Before life’s memories slowly withdrawn,
Blessed to heaven and damned to hell,
As the conflict is quelled with the final knell of a bell,

Many disappeared into the ground,
Many were lost—none were found,
All left to reside in wooden berth,
Below in the blood-stained earth,

All in the scope of the mind’s eye,
The flesh is forced to comply,
The battle raged on and many were lost,
But if there’s a decision, that’s the cost.
