Indian Summer
Roses sleep beside the butterfly
undisturbed.silent harmony
Night young beneath a lonely star.
The parish clock strikes the quarter,
What the hour I do not know.
Time still in a heavy humid air.
Children sleep as candles flutter,.
Fragrant scents disturb hawk-moths
search Valerian's drowsy flowers.,
Families crowd the table, an idyll
rivaling all I read in nursery rhymes,
curtains waiting sleep.
The year is late, winter soon,
water lilies ,dream of love.
Valerian's mystic flowers soothe my brow,.
I hear the hour, time is flown.
Midnight now, candles fighting sleep.
Quiet . . . close the bedroom door.
