Huxtable vs Cosby (winners & losers)
"The values that Cliff Huxtable embodied were real, but the man who played him was a lie."
....Renee Graham
Bill Cosby, Al Franken, Bill Clinton, etc., etc. and the list is nearly endless. Are they guilty?
Today a jury found one of them so. Earlier the other two were found to be also, either by outright admission or by being backed into a corner, from where he could no longer find an escape, though he never admitted it.
Which brings me to the gist of this piece.
Perhaps you think they were the losers, but I feel we are all losers in some way, be it from the loss of belief in those we looked up to and came to respect, or the service they provided each of us.
And what of the winners, well, there are none, there never are in these matters. There were no winners before this verdict, and there are none after. The many women who stood up, the ones who are standing up now, and sorrowfully the many who will need to stand up in the future, are not winners.
They are true heroines, make no mistake about that. People to whom we should aspire to emulate, but not winners, for they have given more of themselves than anyone should ever need to. They did so in the face of public ridicule, at the expense of being called liars and they will continue to be considered so by some.
They are the true Cliff Huxtable.
A person OF and WITH character, not just a character.
