Image for the poem Scarlet Street

Scarlet Street

Shadows cast 'neath red street lamps
Stretched dancing on Whitechapel walks
The moon grins, a gibbous loon
The night's delight on Scarlet Street

Doxies come and harlots go
Parading their cheap finery
Gents arrive by private coach
Satisfaction at a farthing's price

But it seems that Jack is back
Toting his black Gladstone bag
Blades sharpened and razor keen
No ripping now, precision clean.
