Author's Note
This is a tanka, which is similar to haiku but with two extra lines of seven syllables each. The same poem is repeated in Japanese, Romanized pronunciation, and an English translation. I would appreciate any comments from a native Japanese speaker or two.
Most of the poems I have written in the last four years are either haiku or tanka, but this is the first one I've shared here.
