Poet Introduction
I have always enjoyed poetry, but haven't written any since my college days. Since my divorce and my son leaving home, I have more time and have been writing some haiku and tanka for a couple of years. Now, I have a renewed interest in other forms.
OBSERVATIONAL POEM

heaping piles of junk
piles and piles
of boxes and files
all over the floor
and into the aisles
covered with dust
and cobwebs and grime
i’d throw them away
if i had more time
except for that jacket
it belonged to my son
and one of those crockpots
i’m not sure which one
the hacksaw can stay
i might use it one day
and also this snow globe
from monterey bay
maybe tomorrow
I’ll get to this stuff
right now i’ll consider
the plan is enough
that lavender necktie
will...

Sonnet for Grace
I cannot remember when we first met,
Longer ago than many a friendship.
It seems we don’t know everything yet
About handling this mid-life courtship.
Off and on it has been, but mostly on.
There is much we have done, yet other things
Await the chances which are far from gone.
We must wait to see what the future brings.
Our lives, and fates, appear to overlap
And now we cannot seem to separate
Even though we’ve tried to widen the gap
Between us, we can’t make feelings abate.
So, hold on to me, and I will to you
And hold on...

With You
With you, life is better, and easier,
Thanks to you, I believe in love again.
You help me realize that love, true love
Is possible; for us, and all others.
Yes, I could live without your loving kiss
But I don’t want to. And yes, I could love
again, but not the same way I love you.
I could, but what would be the reason to?
Because it’s you who are my heart’s delight,
That someone quite as wonderful as you,
Loves me, seems beyond all my fantasies,
Your love makes me glad for life’s lesser gifts.

My Neighbor's Kitty
My neighbor’s cat comes to visit
I talk to her and she rubs against my legs
Scratching her ears, I make her purr
She gently nibbles my kitty treats.
The neighbor yells over the fence
“Get back here kitty! That ain’t your place”
And then curses me for loving his cat.
He goes inside cursing his cat and me.
Why can’t we share the cat?
He enjoys her, why can’t I?
There is time enough in a day
For both of us to have a turn.
The cat seems happy; so am I
It’s only the neighbor guy who’s not
He could keep her...

Even Though
My bed is too hot
My blanket is too heavy
Even though there is frost
Sweat forms on my brow
And sleep will not come
My chest is too tight
My mind, full of thoughts
Even though my life’s fine
Doubts remain in my heart
And peace will not come
My legs are too itchy
My back is quite stiff
Even though I am healthy
There are aches and pains
And rest will not come
My house is all empty
No others have come here
Even though I have friends
I don’t want their company
