The Rock

Unexpected,
  a tornado cloud,
  a swirling wind so powerful,
  weaving God's intention
through the eye of my storm.

Unsettling,
  these swirling winds,
  agitating deep within -
  indecision I'd thought settled,
  thoughts I had conformed.

Invading deep
  the depths of me,
  my conscience and my honesty,
  removing dust of time's debris,
  revealing my life anew.

Standing on the Rock of Him,
  the landscape
  looking dark and grim,
  fog has rolled around me,
  blocked my view.

I'm blinded by the circumstance,
  all decisions
  seem like chance,
  nothing's clear
  in my first desperate glance.

I look in all directions,
  search with circumspection,
  but even retrospection
  shows no dry ground,
  just miles of flooded land.

If I step off of His life support,
  my battered soul
  will drift apart,
  leaving me in pieces
  washed up in the sand.

So, I wait still upon this Rock,
   solidly standing,
   but my mind shifts, demanding,
   unsettled
   by my own vertigo.

If I keep my eye on the storm,
   my confusion and fear
are the view that is near -
yet, His voice I can hear,
   "Be still and know..."

I hold my breath and close my eyes
to the storm in the sky,
   my prayer begins,
   there's no demise -
   the storm rages grand.

The wind is blowing
   all around me,
   circumstances still surround me,
   and as I pray,
upon the Rock of God I stand.

Then behold!
   He brings my breath again,
fills me with His peace again.
   fills me with the courage
   to be still.

God calms me,
   and soothes me,
   saturates the life in me.
   makes me boldly brave,
   surrounds me with His will.

He inspires my passion,
   focuses my mind,
   streamlines my thinking,
   synchronizes the rhythm
of my heart and my soul.

God concentrates my breathing
   calibrates the life in me
   reunites my thinking
   with His good plans,
   full of hope.

Faith firming,
  this tornado cloud,
  this swirling wind so powerful,
  weaving God's intention
through the eye of my storm.

My mind is renewed,
I am transformed.

“Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from him. Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken. My salvation and my honor depend on God; he is my mighty rock, my refuge. Trust in him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge.”
-Psalm‬ ‭62:5-8‬ ‭NIV

“He says, 'Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.'" -Psalm‬ ‭46:10‬ ‭NIV‬‬

“The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”   -Exodus‬ ‭14:14‬ ‭NIV‬‬

‬‬“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”   -Matthew‬ ‭7:24-27‬ ‭NIV

“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.”
-Romans‬ ‭12:2‬ ‭NIV‬‬
