Best Friend Goodbye

We were never good at goodbyes.
I hated when it was time for him to fly.
Time well spent going in depth together.
If only we had come unfettered.
Instead we would part after days and days.
We would spend our next meeting starting over, as if
all the time before was a sort of haze.
Then once we found our way back to that comfort zone,
something would still seem wrong.
It got to where I wouldn't say us. I wouldn't say we.
I was thrilled he was there, but remained to feel alone.
There was a secret we both kept.
Though, I did bring it up.
A wall arose, one he had already knocked down.            That's how it went, since his mouth stayed froze.
Yes, with no goodbye, he left one day, and then the time after that.  Till he walked out and never came back.
