Whitewash

Screw this circus
I'm checking out
I'm already gone

Like a gunslinger's last shot
I put my smoking pistol back in its holster
but you were too late to smell the cordite

As long as you have someone
to pay your bills
then that's all that matters to you
You only care
what other people think
about what you're doing

Everything we once cherished
you have lost
behind jokescreens of pretence
It's always business as usual at all costs
The happyapple cart must not be rocked

And even when your heart's
hanging barewired out of your chest
you just wanna throw
a bucket of whitewash
over the world
and pretend
