Who are you?

Who am I?
You asked me that? Why?
It almost makes me want to cry
You know who I am
You would give me such a slam?
This must be a sham

No, who are you?
I haven’t a clue
You seem to have come from out of the blue
I don’t want to be predatory
But this is my territory
Not your own personal dormitory

Well, excuse me for encroaching
And for on your land poaching
But I saw no harm in approaching
For you see I’m here
Because this situation’s quite queer
I thought I’d be given a cheer

This situation? It’s one I can handle
To me you could never hold a candle
For I am the shoe and you are the sandle
I will showcase to you my power
High over you I’ll continue to tower
Just sit back and watch, you delicate flower

Are you so proud that you don’t think you must adapt?
Now I can see that you’re clearly not apt
So I promise to you that your streak will be snapped
You’d go so far as to endanger the one you swore to protect?
It’s because of your folly that they’ll be utterly wrecked
I think that it’s you who we must reelect

Reelect me? What a laughable notion
After all of my years of zealous devotion?
Who here will support this reckless demotion?
Nobody will
Our ward it would kill
If they were to lose my prodigious skill

Does your pride blind you so?
I think you’ll find nothing but woe
Within this hallowed chateau
Who else here agrees
That this leadership brings nothing but unease?
With your support taking over would be a breeze

We, your cohorts, find
That under your tutelage we’re in a bind
And in order to obtain peace of mind
You must step aside
Let go of your pride
Let someone else take up your stride

I cannot believe this!
Do you think under him there’ll be nothing but bliss?
He’ll do nothing but lead you into the abyss!
Our protectorate’s lost!
I hope you all know that that is the cost!
Without me you’ll be totally lost!

Please, colleague, do not so complain
In not too long you’ll be needed again
You know full well that this change of the guard is just to attain
The best possible outcome for our coddled master
So please accept me as your quartermaster
I swear on my honor I won’t lead us to disaster

Do what you will, I no longer care
Depression has caught me by its ungodly snare
And brought me down to the deepest depths of despair
Our dependency’s evolved
I doubt that I’ll ever again be called
A new part has been installed

Ah, yes, what you say may be right
It would seem that lately you’ve been nothing but trite
But I hope that in your final hours these words of mine will bring you light
Just as machines need new parts, people do as well
To adapt to situations and better themselves, some old ones they may expel
But it’s those who blend the new and the old who put others under their spell
