Anyone can write poems
but to become a poet you must be
an authority on poetry as well
and to be a successful poet today
you must also be a vulgar
advertising genius
The idea that poets are born
and not made
seems as absurd as
a three day old kipper taking wing
It's true that poets never make any money
because they are always too busy
eulogising over the nobler aspects
of poetry
And there is very little or no connection
between poetry and intelligence
therefore you can be stupid
and still write a good poem
However, a poet always
needs his wits
about him or her
because there is simply nothing worse
than a witless poet

Grimly observant and refreshingly down to earth reflection on poetry. I've always believed in there being no connection between creativity and intelligence as well, which would explain why I can write poems until my fingers weep for mercy, but can't do even simple sums for the best kind of butterscotch toffee!

really enjoyed the piece. good flow and you carried the theme all the way! Poets are born not made! the environments in which they brewed, sculpt the visions that inspire this glory. your bird reference tells this clearly. even at 3 months, three years or 3 hours, that birds destiny is to fly! maybe not now, but soon it will open it's wings and assume it's role. either you got it or you don't! anyone saying anything less is a fish pretending to fly....
