Who comes up with this shit?
Why would anyone remain silent?
Especially if they are innocent
It’s only the guilty that hide this way
The stupid guilty that are not good liars
Can’t keep their story straight under cross examination
Too weak minded to stand up and shout your answers clearly
All you are really being asked to do is tell the bloody truth
But you can’t because then they will see you are guilty
An accessory after, during and before the crime
In my world if you pled the fifth
You would get the same jail
Time as the crime committed
Regardless of who did it
Twenty five years for
Pleading the fifth
They’d talk then
Like twittering
Stool pigeons

O...to be sure---shouting, and posting their side of the story to all those "likes", and "dislikes" on the social media sites ('tweeting' out like those pigeons (lol) ) A twenty-five year sentence could provide quite the incentive!
David...this piece puts a bit of a spin on the whole concept of pleading the fifth....and puts my thoughts into quite a spin as well! However...this is one of the aspects of your poetry that i truly appreciate and enjoy...how your unique insight causes me to stop and consider things from an entirely different perspective! Thank you for continuing to challenge my out-looks / beliefs!

that's really why I write those kind of poems I feel the need sometimes to provoke a reaction - the reader doesn't have to agree but I think if it makes people think then it's done its job :-))))

Great formatting, the intro sets the scene perfectly! Then the in-line rhymes and steady flow at the end really tie it all up for a tidy little package of perspective :))
