The Lost Poets Series:
IMAMU AMIRI BARAKA

'Young Soul'

First, feel, then feel, then
read, or read, then feel, then
fall, or stand, where you
already are. Think
of yourself, and the other-
selves...think
of your parents, your mothers
and sisters, your bentslick
father, then feel, or
fall, on your knees
if nothing else will move you,

Then read
and look deeply
into all matters
come close to you
city boys-
country men

Make some muscle
in your head, but
use the muscle
in your heart.

"Ole Soul"

Likened, to a fine wine
though, the ridicule
replays as it rewind
thru time...

"You're like an old man"

The wisdom, 'otherworldly'
seems...God-birthed the
thoughts stream...

Thou art blessed
musically stung soul
Yee, are cursed by
the sort of lease it holds...

Cry, ole soul, a sole
heard loud, ever weep
it's wonder, die in slumber
'fore thee Old whole
is at rest, in eternity
six feet under...
