The Garden of Eve (An Ode to John Milton)
Was this the Fallen Angel you spoke of?
That could be seen as the North Star,
walking down a path in a nights dream.
You could never see it very well
even though the moon and the stars
shine bright within the sky.
In my youth I read your stories
of a serpent causing man to sin,
which was through the beauty of a woman.
I was too young to understand the lesson
of a girl taking fruit from an apple tree,
the pursuit of knowledge being our greatest sin.
I walk along this path at night,
in the direction of the brightest star
hoping to discover the enlightenment.
I see not a girl causing man to sin
nor a serpent that broke God's will;
But instead something far more simple and pure.
When all of the lust was obtain
with pink lips upon a single apple,
which defied the will of God.
A girl who loved so dear
and regardless of her fate
she would not be alone.
I would say to you if you were only here,
that 'Paradice' was never 'Lost'
but instead 'Regained.'
Reference note to John Milton's "Paradice Lost"
In the Epic Milton wrote that it was Eve who took the apple after being deceived by Lucifer. After taking the apple she feeds half of it to Adam who was unaware it was the forbidden fruit. This was the cause of man's exile from Eden. This is my reflection to the author.
