Not Yet Dead in the Head
granny ain't trippin'
she ain't flippin'
mind ain't slippin'
jus tired o sittin'
she may drop some rhymes
this ain't about that
its about droppin' dimes
and takin' her street back
watchin' them fools
that ain't been schooled
out on her street
leavin' their stools
fools school
street stools
everybody playin' cool
yea
she may drop some rhymes
this ain't about that
it's about droppin' dimes
and takin' our streets back
she's tired of the dope
reached the end of her rope
seein' kids killin' kids
and nobody spoke
tired of it happenin'
bullets be crackin'
while all on yo minds
is bodies be slappin'
so git outta yo seats
and into the streets
this ain't about flow
it's about crack hoes
three yard vans
not bein' bland
jus bein' stupid
payin' the man
bland......man
stupid vans
bein' mired in quicksand
gang bangin'
fingers signin'
all a wreck
no respect
daddies dyin'
kids cryin'
mothers sobbin'
all this robbin'
dyin......cryin
sobbin......robbin
sittin' there, only heads bobbin'
needles stickin'
girls be trickin'
ODs quickenin'
all this sickenin'
if you might be thinkin'
this is all about race
it ain't about that
git outta her face
tho she's white
and not very bright
that ain't the gist
its about gettin' right
she's got grandsons
caramel hued lil' hons
doesn't even own a gun
jus tryin' to get it done
cause if you haven't noticed
we're all in this together
Author's note: If you had trouble gettin' into the flow of this, had to keep going back rereading and looking for it, then
GOOD!!
cuz that's what I fuckin' wanted.
***2nd note: If you don't think all this is extreme, then the title doesn't apply to you.

I don't even wanna imagine how to be in your shoes now Amorous_tryst.
But I agree, it takes a collective effort and more than just passive agression to end that war agains, drugs and guns. we all have to stand together, get out on street if needed just so we can make a change, for our children and grand children.
I am not American, but here is no different.

Yes, I know it's no better where you live either, and if we all don't start doing our part, it'll only get worse.

Awww, My lovely Lady, so many thank yous for your words. Some times I get so frustrated reading and hearing about these problems and no real answers to the situation. I worry about not just my grandsons, but for all the children who will inherit this mess.
Your compliments and visit always appreciated.

dead in the head is subjective - is the man who wants to Defend his family with a gun dead in the head or the guy that wants all guns banned - I am not going to answer that question (lol) but the description dead in the head has so many interpretations - I really liked and enjoyed your poem and think it would be great as a perfomance piece :-)
Excellent write :-) Hugs :-)

Re: Re. Not Yet Dead in the Head
My thoughts when titling this was the apathy some seem to have as far as helping rid our streets of drugs and violence when all that needs to be done is "See something, say something". I know that's simplifying the fight, but you have to start somewhere. As far as performance.......stage fright here, but more than happy to let someone take and run with it as part of theirs.
Thanks David your perspective always welcomed by me.

who cares if apathy rules (lol) it's not simplifying the fight I think it is exactly the fight - finding solutions is the pain in the ass, not that we shouldn't try :-)

You know I created a character I call the Mass Worderer... this definitely makes me think of 'him'...gotta give u the props my dear, not just on the flow, but the depth of passionate outrage for this fucked up situation plaguing our future...

Poe, you and I both know laying out the cause and effect of our current mess would be another War and Peace length write, yet most only think how to treat the symptoms rather than the disease. Welfare, food stamps, etc. are only band aids and cheap insurance to help us feel good about ourselves and maybe keep us out of harms ways and, that policy is going to lapse pretty soon if a real solution isn't found. Better stop here before this turns into that write.
You know the standard closing, and it's heart felt here.

you spit the truth that cracks the earth
right here...
and you are right..
it's gonna take a collective effort
to turn this tide..

Couldn't agree more on the collective effort, but getting people off their ass and doing it is the real problem. Until it hits them personally, it's just another day in the life. We can't just sit and wait for some government agency to come to the rescue, sometimes the masses have to save themselves by taking an active roll in combating the problem. I feel you start by no longer turning a deaf ear and blind eye.

Re: Re. Not Yet Dead in the Head
There comes a time in life when circumstance dictates action. We have reached that point yet again, though in reality we've not left it in 200 years. You hear people say they'd protect their children with their life. Maybe these problems wouldn't necessitate anything that extreme, so, why not protect them by speaking up when the opportunity is there, taking a stand in your own neighborhood or community. All it takes is for one to become two, then a group, and that group becomes a crowd. We've all seen what a crowd is capable of, only this crowd will be here to reclaim what belongs to them, to build up instead of tear down. Simplified??, yes, the devil is always in the details, so, lets work out the details together. They say, "what have you got to lose?".....in this case everything!
Thanks for the visit as always CF, your pen is always a welcomed sight.
