The Proposal
Edith, this one is for you
In hopes it lifts some of the fog
From your mind about me and my poetry
I'll be ready in time, I hope you don't change
Your mind about following me
And my thoughts of eternity
My shame has a name
It start's with a D
And ends with a Nay
Listen to what I say
I cheated
When I said
I'd never cheat
On someone who once
Made me complete
Shame made me
Shout out her name
To the skies
And want to die
I thought with my dick
She wouldn't even give it a lick
We took it slow
Now I reap what I sow
My shame has a name
And I am only to blame
She forgave me
A long time ago
But I've learned
I must forgive myself first
It gave me the cursed thirst
To drink away all my sins
And think it was her heart
That was all of my whims
But now I've met you
And want to move on
But still write lyrics to songs
About how my heart bleeds
And weeps for her still
Maybe in you I will
Find that blessed fill
Of the hollow in my heart
It's about time to start
Thinking about what I know
We all have many soulmates
But only one twin flame
I still don't know
Who is mine to name
But you and I
Are so much the same
And you are one hell
Of a beautiful dame
Inside and out
But yet there is doubt
I doubt my own feelings
Because they have once
Led me astray
So I propose we meet one day
You decide when and where
I'll pay for plane fare
And I also have a dare
I dare you
To write poetry
In reflection
Of your experiences
Dive into your shadow
I know it's not shallow
And let me learn more
About you who
I've come to adore
No one is keeping score
And I will admit I sense
In you something sore
But I hope to open a door
To a great friendship
Or maybe something more
In hopes it lifts some of the fog
From your mind about me and my poetry
I'll be ready in time, I hope you don't change
Your mind about following me
And my thoughts of eternity
My shame has a name
