A Simple Acknowlegement
Not a poem here nor even prose, but rather a comment or pet peeve if you will.
Since joining this fine site, I have enjoyed not only posting some of my work, but also reading the work of others. And there most certainly are many fine poets here, and my following comment is not on their writing, but rather their lack of manners (both new members and seasoned ones as well).
Some may take exception to what I have to say here, and that is their right to do so, and if they feel strongly enough to counter my observation, I will welcome their thoughts, either in comment below or personal message.
So, here is my comment:
When one chooses to put either A. Yes- I want honest criticism or B. Yes- I want friendly feedback and someone takes the time to read and comment on the work, it is just good manners to acknowledge their time for doing so. It makes no difference if you agree or not, for you did ask for it, good or bad. The only exception I see is if you asked for friendly feedback and the comment was not friendly. If they followed your request, then have the decency to acknowledge it. A simple "Thank You" is all it takes and if you wish to expand further then do so.
If you can not at least do this one simple thing, then you should choose C. No- Don't allow comments, then they can put their time to better use.
Only once have I left comment and received an acknowledgement that either was because of a misunderstanding on one or either of our parts or just a difference of opinion, that the acknowledgement was somewhat upsetting to me. But I tell you here, most bluntly, that I have more respect for that person than all the others who did not even take the time to acknowledge the comment left my me or someone else.
Enough said.
I feel better now. (Maybe I should have published this under "Anger Poems").
