My Mask

When everything's okay, I just want you to tell me that you love me.
I want to avoid how we're changing so rapidly.
Speeding through life like my racing heart beat, or branching out over time like an oak tree.
Will our limps touch again along the journey?
Just tell me was this a wild dream?
When you said you might be in love with me.
Or were you talking in your sleep?
The way your big, brown eyes stared so deep.
It was as if you saw the cracks in my mask, every little split and seam.
Your love caused a war I couldn't beat.
A GRUESOME WAR that left me with PTSD.
You shattered my mask... and I can't find all the pieces.
They've been lost, and I'm terrified as the existence of this fake image of myself ceases...
