Letting go

A vision in champagne satin
truest smile I'd ever seen
so bright, it lit her eyes
from the inside
like the Fourth of July
golden flakes and green
breaking through what
always appeared to be brown

I finally got to see
the barest trace of me
in her
bittersweet, that moment
when my own eyes
must have dimmed
from the effort
of gracefully letting go
