The Dying Man

If you listen
you can hear
the last wishes of
a dying man
praying not to be laid bare
in his last resting place
called coffin

Begging life to take away
the creases
in his face
and give him back
his
beating heart

To listen to the birdsong
and the wind
through new ears and
no longer through
muffled pain

If you listen you can hear
the prayers of the
mourning wife
screaming silently into
the night sky
until
dawn
breaks

Begging for love
to be renewed
for hands to be held tight
as bodies move close
together

The joy of bringing life
into
this
world
and knowing
the love you share this with
be by your side

If you listen you can hear
the child cry as dawn breaks
I need you here to hold my bike
a I ride, like the wind
for that
very
first
time

To hold my chin and
tell
me
that everything
will
be
alright

If you listen you will hear
the life flow away and
begin a
new journey
on high
as the cries softly stifle
and love
continues
to
grow

If you listen
you will hear
the silence of the past
If you listen
If you listen
