House of Cards
We built our house of cards with love
At first, it withstood the wind
Ever so slowly, one by one
The cards began to shift
When I think of all the years gone by
The pain rips my heart apart
You used to be the light in my eyes
Now I can't see you through the dark
We both knew what was happening
But were too afraid to let go
Neither of us have been alone
Together is the only life we've known
The road is now long and winding
I can't see around the bend
But in my heart I know the truth
This is the beginning of our end
I think it's time to admit what's left
No longer resembles a home
The winds of change blew in
Uprooting the seeds we had sewn
Inside I feel so empty and hurt
Oh baby, this is so damn hard...
To see the end and realize
Forever just wasn't in our cards
At first, it withstood the wind
Ever so slowly, one by one
The cards began to shift
When I think of all the years gone by
The pain rips my heart apart
You used to be the light in my eyes
Now I can't see you through the dark
We both knew what was happening
But were too afraid to let go
Neither of us have been alone
Together is the only life we've known
The road is now long and winding
I can't see around the bend
But in my heart I know the truth
This is the beginning of our end
I think it's time to admit what's left
No longer resembles a home
The winds of change blew in
Uprooting the seeds we had sewn
Inside I feel so empty and hurt
Oh baby, this is so damn hard...
To see the end and realize
Forever just wasn't in our cards
