Aunt Minnie was a frail wisp of a woman
Uncle Tom was a giant of a man
Stetson hat, mean bastard
I’ve thought about Aunt Minnie
most of my life
wondering . . .
why no one in the family didn’t stop him
I was much too young

For sure, Brenda, it most definitely left its mark on me. I think of what I saw often. My father refused to step in, my uncles, nobody stepped up. If Uncle Tom is in hell I hope he is in the absolute worst place there. Thank you for checking out this dreary poem.

Jerry my friend that ending made me sound like Ralph Cramden..."ooof"...powerful and poignant and your Aunt would be honored. Turning a blind eye is never good when it comes to those who frickin know better.

Ah Taryn, as I was writing this little poem I was hoping someway Aunt Minnie could know it was being written. Made me feel good just imagining that she could. Thank you or your sweet comments.
