My Sister in California

As a man, the women in your life are precious.
They are Edens defilers are warded from with your own arms.

A woman unprotected is a frozen cherry blossom
crept upon in the night.

I did not protect my sister.
From all the way in the closing valley
as the mountains meet gradually consuming the earth.

But she is my girl.
And I know that any girl of mine can protect herself.
My mother proved it to me every tear she made into money she made into a house she made into a fortress she made for the men she grew.

A woman unprotected is like a flower, yeah, like a rose with thorns.
In a touchy world, beauty guards its own.

I can't lock her away.
I can't cage her.
No, nothing for her own good.

She has grown out of the fairytale, damsel illusion.
And she is her own main character and her own protagonist.

I have nothing to worry about.

My sister in California
is coming to the South,
and all she needs is love.
