Another day at the office
The neighbours upstairs
and slightly to the left
were the reason she shook me awake:
They were killing each other.
He had taken every object in the house
as a projectile.
Later it transpired
that he'd held her hand
to use as an ashtray.
He's moving out,
but she blames herself.
Then they were the kids
earlier today...
'We got ta go do dat ting.'
I've got no idea what a 'ting' is,
but they enjoyed sitting on the railings
eye-balling me as I finished my cigarette.
The scar across my knuckles
forced a smile towards them...
If you're going to get scared
of the kids you may as well give up.
Now, after a good feed
and a creative burst
I sip the wine
with ease.
Putting out a cigarette
a little anxious about the blood tests tomorrow.
Hell! It will all be fine,
there's domestic violence,
dumb young cunts
and office workers out there.
I've got the trilogy watered down
and rolled in to one,
just enough to make it bearable
every now and then.
