War of the Words

Slogging through each semantic step  
trudging on to keep up this war of words  
the linguistic logistics a battle in itself  
making sure the regimented rhymes  
leave no syllable behind  
that no verb is missing,  
no noun is lost,  
and no adverb is AWOL,  
as the adjectives keep up the aggression.  
Pass the vocabulary and praise the dictionary  
as new calls shout out the old order  
for more wordpower and covering aphorisms,  
where's the damn profanities?  
And bring up the auxiliary verbs  
can the consonants handle it?  
Trust the metaphors to be stuck in the mud  
while synonyms lie spent,  
and references cry out for citations needed.  
On and on we trudge  
further towards the speech melee  
where broken phalanxes of phrases  
quarrel with long lyrics in the dust up  
while voices and discourses argue about deployment,  
as the fight carries on regardless,  
Only onlookers can watch and receive enjoyment  
in this slog so long and artless.
