he threw the lock away
he threw the lock away
though came to lock it in
the swell was too enchanting
to say no
that would indeed
be betrayal
after all
his true calling was there
the dark waters
the turbulent waves
the deep

Sounds like the sea is calling you home, Birdman!
This was intriguing, especially the first two stanzas. There's an aura of mystery seemingly alluring and dangerous, as that of a siren's song; however, it's countered with an aspect of belonging.

indeed Sage One -Ahavati!
apologies for leaving it loose ended- it was the intention- just a story of bloke - coming to lock in his love- as is the case around the world where many a soulmates/lovebirds do(put locks on the bridge to mark/for good luck and for whatever reasons)- many a stories in life precede the lock in his hand, only to be beckoned by his magnetic attraction to what's mentioned in the last stanza. Perhaps he knows the lock's not a true one.
I appreciate deeply your deeeep insight and appreciation my respected friend!
warm regards

I'd be terrified to lock anything in at a singular moment in time, knowing how quickly things change. But I do admire those who can and do!

ever wondered why we call you a Sage One? yes, always makes me ponder and evokes many an emotions the sight- locks on the bridge by the sea!

This piece seemed cryptic to me at first glance but when I looked up at the photo again it suddenly hit me: what was he locking away his worries, his existence, himself? this was so deep and has many angles to it. every person can read it based on his or her state of mind. touche

Welcome dear friend,
deeply appreciate your visit and keen insight. That was the intention to leave it cryptic, but decided to add the pic, the bridge in the pic is the Sea Cliff Bridge- the locks on that one- too many to count, were the inspiration. Glad the scribble made some sense.
thanks once again!

Who doesn't desire the lock of Love?
This to me is life's purist pursuit for inner-peace...all humans have one to desire-to be completely understood by another (inside and out) ...Acceptance/Understanding...they are inseparable as "Worthy" This is the vanity of ego, the cry of a child that never leaves till we are dead.
Beautiful Write KD ...Turbulent is the World, we ride the waves as we can

I suppose I have learned never to throw the lock away - people can be so fickle and nothing is for ever :-)
An excellent hopeful write :-)

My strategy for throwing the lock away was to demolish the whole bridge, so everything fell into the water, including me.
(cue Elton John's "I'm Still Standing").
Love your poem, thank you, but still trying to get my head around it. Comments above have been helpful in this respect.

Welcome Dear Josh!
I reckon your strategy is a good one!
I'll lift the veil from this confusing work- it's a story of a bloke who came to put a lock on the bridge by the sea, where countless lovers have done the same- to symbolize their love and its key is thrown away to symbolize unbreakable love.
He comes to the bridge to do the same and then realises it's not his true love, perhaps due to his mental state or some reason that cannot be put in words- he's lured unconditionally by the deep, dark, turbulent ocean- and throws away the lock and himself too- for reasons i'd leave to the reader's imagination.
I welcome your visit and kind appreciaiton and honest views on my scribble. Hearing back from a poet of your calibre is always a pleasure.
warm regards

*ouch* & *amazing*
such a poetic trinket, KD!
and what lies in locks?
don`t we all want to know
it`s reason?
Betrayal ... I can understand
for it was in that moment, forged
in that pledge, and to have unlocked
would have been a tragedy of sorts,
I assume ...

Welcome dear Amazing Lady!
I thank you sincerely, for your generous appreciation and deep insight my friend.
Your assumption and piercing vision is indeed admirable. As explained to Josh in the comment above- this is indeed a tragic tale- reasons, I'd leave it to your amazing imagination dear poetess!

First read this took me back to jetty jumping off Henley Beach as a kid. Over the rail, one, two, three…free. Dangerous yes, but the exhilaration to (live &) die for. Thank goodness he came to his senses and offered (s)he open hand of enticement. I’m gonna stick to this version, the tragedy...too sad.

Exhilaration. Yes, that's the word. Well, simply stating from what we know of you, that is totally NOT Unexpected of you probably even now(if you find self at that beach alone and none looking).
You, my friend - are welcome to stick to the version you feel is apt for you are entitled to.
Once again, I thank You sincerely, for gracing my page with your visit and feedback.
Cheers!
