Story Poem, Nr.02 — Guru Oh-My-Goshi
The guru came from far away
which made him more exotic
with flowing robes and wizened face
his name was Oh-My-Goshi
he wore a really fearsome beard
which made him look despotic
but kindly words assuaged all fears
his name was Oh-My-Goshi
and some thought answers that he gave
were vague and wishy-washy
but others thought him all the rage
his name was Oh-My-Goshi
the years went by, the numbers grew
he drank no wine or coffee
but no-one knew the background to
the guru Oh-My-Goshi …
… was born in some impoverished state
an extra child too many
abandoned with a label saying
“my name is Oh-My-Goshi”
adopted by a wealthy man
and trained to be a jockey
he always raced to victory
the jockey Oh-My-Goshi
the wealthy man was very pleased
his rivals thumbed their losses
they planned to end this run of luck
and kill off Oh-My-Goshi
then in a race he had a fall
the others hoofed him squashy
and everyone thought he was dead
the poor old Oh-My-Goshi
the wealthy man vowed if he lived
he’d offer Goshi freely
to live his life as he would wish
the lucky Oh-My-Goshi
within three days a miracle
for Goshi did recover
and wished for freedom and a bride
who was his happy lover
the two of them flew off abroad
to Cal-i-for-ni-a
they searched to find a simple home
in which they both could stay
and talking to a friend one day
whose skills were very techy
they founded a new company
in silicon’s old valley
the business prospered very much
they sold it to investors
and Goshi was a millionaire
with lots of great possessions
but then one day old Goshi thought
“what is the point of this?”
and so began an inner search
to cure what was amiss
he grew his hair and took some drugs
explored the other side
and meditated on the things
that took folk for a ride
and sitting down one day with time
to drink a latté-coffee
he thought to understand his name
the name of “Oh-My-Goshi”
perceiving that his name contained
the clue to his vocation
he reckoned what he loved to do
was sit in contemplation
and then to share what was revealed
with those who gathered round
who came from nowhere so it seemed
to sit without a sound
his eyes blinked wide, he shouted out
“My gosh, at last, that’s it
these revelations come to me
all free and bit by bit
for revelation’s such a gift
and resurrection too
it’s worth yet more than everything
than I could ever do”
he gave his fortune all away
his wife was not so pleased
and left him for another man
to live a life of ease
but Oh-My-Goshi took a walk
for deserts beckoned him
and there he lived for several years
while tempted by his whims
then when his desert phase was up
he headed for the sea
and built a shack in which to live
which gave a sense of free
but Oh-My-Goshi knew for sure
that freedom was within
and there he lived a simple life
as people came to him
and many were the folk he met
he talked, they felt uplifted
returning home to carry on
they knew they had been gifted
though in these things it’s good to know
uniqueness, not to copy
our paths contain their own surprise -
don’t copy Oh-My-Goshi
and that’s the story I have found
from poor to very poshy
we have to find true power within
as shown by Oh-My-Goshi.
