Just go
When she was 4, 5, 8
There were certain words
That she learned to hate
When she was four she wanted to play
When she was five she just wanted their time of day
When she was eight,
She knew they just wished she'd stay away
"Our friends are over, not yours
Go away"
8 though 13 she had no friends.
Her brothers and sisters still didn't know
Every time they had friends over she could hear
The laughter and the fun.
When everyone but she got to go.
It's two years later
She feels like she's been through hell
But she's got the truest of friends to show for it
She know in her mind
That her family truly loves her
And she thought things were going well
Until
She sees a picture of her older sister
Who's married, happy
Has both a lovely house and spouse
Didn't know up until now, that she misses her
The sister that had criticized and bossed
She knew her sister loved her
Right?
But they haven't spoken properly in a year
And because of how her siblings treated her
She now hides in corners on the holidays
Doesn't think they want her near
Won't sit with people at lunch
She keeps to herself
And tries to stay alone
Acceptance and kindness
To her appear thin as a bone
She cries on her bed at midnight
(she never cries during the day)
Recalling all the times
Any brother or sister said go away.
So whenever you may speak to her
There's something you should know
When you offer acceptance and love
She might only hear the words
"Just go"
There were certain words
That she learned to hate
When she was four she wanted to play
