asleep at the wheel

Behind the wheel at 4am, I can't sleep again
Thinking of you but I forgot how to pretend
You're not really here to break the silence I fear
That screams in my head that I'd rather be dead
Than accept our goodbyes when we never have met
Just voices in text that cried about how our love died
Before our eyes touched the same sky only to whisper goodbye
And now I'm left with no choice but to swallow my voice
For "hello" was a dream that drove me over the edge
When I fell asleep at the wheel as you stood on the ledge
How could I have known we were born into this life to both die alone
And our desire to meet would spill hello into the mouth of goodbye
