Crossing Lines
He moved close
she felt herself hold back
drawing a line
Invisible,
not ready to let
him in her space
she had felt at ease
in his presence
until that moment
she felt herself
physically stiffen
she may have enjoyed
the closeness
for a little while,
thinking about it,
to wonder if "feeling"
instant gratification is worth
being more empty inside,
because she already knew
it would be a short fix
she decided, no
she felt herself hold back
drawing a line
Invisible,
not ready to let
him in her space
she had felt at ease
in his presence
until that moment
she felt herself
physically stiffen
she may have enjoyed
the closeness
for a little while,
thinking about it,
to wonder if "feeling"
instant gratification is worth
being more empty inside,
because she already knew

she decided, no

Re. Crossing Lines
Close but not too close is a good distance to maintain. Tis better to be alone than lonely with someone else. A gut instinct is for a reason, and too few learn its language. Or, refuse to heed it for fear of being alone.
Enjoyed the read, Je.

I applaud your decision Ms. Jemac. We all deserve more profound, durable connections. With this decision, so beautifully described, a connection with one's authentic self is strengthened. Bravisima!

True, and wise choice. If we never say "no", we end up living under a tyranny of dubious agendas which are not ours.

I missed a lot the last week(s) so I'm trying to catch up and I'm glad I did...
This write really resonates with me and I love the strong ending!
"to wonder if "feeling"
instant gratification is worth
being more empty inside" > I know that empty feeling...
It's so important to stay true to yourself and I'm glad you did!
