justify the broken
thunder beats –
rainstorm roves; lightning shouts
from a mouth with a cut-out tongue
a white flash a strobe
lights up meritless lovers
last stand of rebelist fornicators
only the broken know
love is a hidden door, a foreign place
a leap from Starved Rock; a state of grace
an edict was spoken, or abandoned
but they don’t remember
in the crash of orgasm, memory is lost
drunken lips labor to find a kiss
a violent phase a purple blaze
what is there to say but hold me
the sea wanders to oblivion the sky is colorless
augur the pillories of desire regret the dust
every living thing is lonely
nothing lives & nothing dies
and nothing is lost
when you thieve the darkness to steal your love…

Exhilarating poetry, John;
the storm is heard raging through this piece,
the wind and rain pelting our skin.

It seems as feeling-less as the reality of people just getting their fix . No heartbreak to interfere with anything. I like how the verses flow together. +++

I read past the surface, metaphorically beyond the physical aspects of this; however, it's taken me some time to understand why.
For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. [As a thief in the night.]
Strange how I associated this verse with those. Another great write, John.
