Flightless bird
Today I'm in hiding, from nightmares
and harsh reality alike. I hide from the sun
and cover my head as the rain
steals my warmth. Mostly, I hide from her.
She seems pretty enough,
usually smiling and kind,
but underneath it all I don't like
the way she looks at me or the things
her eyes whisper. Trapped behind the glass
and herself like a caged sparrow
with a broken wing, I feel her lament.
She suffers through the days
and struggles the night as it threatens
to swallow her. When heavy lids wrestle
with shadows, darkness becomes
her home and she builds a ragged nest
made of feathers and tragedy,
using her tears as a mucilage.

A beautiful gift you have given with your golden pen Kasai. We can still hear that harmonious tune whether we see you or not.

So achingly beautiful.
The storms within so raging.
I feel the depths of those storms in every words.
Words which resonate.
((Hugs)) to you lovely lady.

tears are too fragile to hold, so is beauty,
& this is a hard wind for a bird in flight, Kas;
sorrow that won't be softened by the rain...

Yes, John, they are, so easy to slip away on the wind or get lost among the drops of rain...

Living with a hidden truth is difficult when you think no one understands. Thank gods for poetry, especially as this.

So true, and maybe truth should not be hidden, it seems to find a way out eventually. Poetry softens the harsh edges. Thank you for sharing, wise one...
