Éternité
the empty moments
turn to days & weeks & months,
caged eternity—
real life encroaching lovers,
taking leave amid the rain
abandoning us—
we who try to keep time still,
fallen to our knees
surrounded in the deluge,
casting our passions amuck
forsaking us here
where we take what we have left
and forget the rest—
there is 'now' with you alone
as there always was before

Let the deluge come and go, we remain
"With their hearts they turned to each other's hearts for refuge
In the troubled years that came before the deluge"
Jackson Browne BEFORE THE DELUGE

And all the while... the rain... a drought in other ways, but not now... all night and into the morning, the rain, even now, and beyond. Thank you, tomcat, for the recommend, and the words of you, and Jackson Browne. jadey (no emojis while on the computer)

passion is wetter in the rain
goes deeper than the skin
how satisfying is the blue of it...

The entire verse is beautiful, Jade. But these lines anchored it firmly.

Oh, my gosh, thank you for these words, dear sister. Even as the rain has been pouring down through the night and early morning. With my gratitude. xo

Living in the now is the only way to go. One can only try to keep the deluge from becoming overwhelming and p0tentially destructive to peace of mind. I think it was Louis IVX who said, "Apres moi, le deluge". That was probably arrogance speaking. Your carpe diem is more personal and modest, and your poem's an inspiration. Fine job Jade!

Re: Re. Éternité
Ah, you were close: "Après nous, le déluge" ("After us, the deluge") attribwuted to Madame de Pompadour, the lover of King Louis XV of France. An alternative form, attributed to Louis himself, is "Après moi, le déluge" ("After me, comes the flood").
I really appreciate your embrace of the dynamics of this write. And well determined regarding the level of my carpe diem (an aphorism found in the Roman writer Horace's Odes)!
