Je sui la fille en feu
The embers have long gone cold.
I draw lines on the ashes -
Shapes and words -
While shivering
Under spiraling starry skies -
In the distance,
A gunshot.
What do I know of fire, of heat?
Of this stupid heart that beats -
Stubborn -
In the empty shell frozen in time.
The night goes on and daylight comes.
You come and go.
I stand and wait...beg and pray.
I crumble in tears as memories run -
White innocence, picking petals, and sun.
Trees, the river.
The thick blankets of home on a
Breathtaking storm
As rain pounds on the roof -
And I
Sit here,
In the now,
Waiting for lightning.
It came out of nowhere.
The ice and fire blending in this body,
It is my lightning.
The shocking shot that has me moving.
It is building.
Not just a fire in my chest, in my belly.
It is in these veins -
Coursing through.
The heart now beats fire,
Spreads white hot,
Gradual.
As it remembers how flames consumed me before,
Bursting,
Breaking me and my witchy ways.
The wind has blown away my scribbles.
I come from the ash,
I've been lit by the storm.
Je sui la fille en feu.
