Nerium
Poetry is the place I turn to when the world
tries to eradicate my kind like a noxious weed.
But even a weed needs a place to grow and we thrive
in places not meant to sustain us.
We reach for a piquant sun that withers
and singes our edges and we are destined
to sprout beneath eroding concrete.
It lacerates our tender beauty as we push through
the jagged openings left behind after a ravaging rain.
Light trickles through the cracks, taunting us with false hopes,
illuminating the darkness like a neon exit sign.
I tug at my roots to make an escape
but I am small, and I dry up in that angry sun
as the soles of those above crush me without
a second glance.

Love the metaphor in this one, Kasai!
It's my favorite plant... their scent is amazing!
Everytime I see one I take a moment to look, smell...
... then take one flower and put it in my hair :-)

Thanks, Duende, glad you came to visit me. A flower in your hair, such a wonderful way to appreciate that beauty...

Love the first two lines. They entice the reader and establish the "world" of the poem.

I have always had a soft spot for the dandelions that grow through the cracks in the sidewalks. They have such tenacity and pluck! I let them live and shower them with smiles and hope. Beautifully written, Kasai :)

That makes two of us, Willow, like tiny spots of sunshine in a sea of green. Thanks for reading, kind lady...

Flattered by your lack of words, Devlin, always a compliment in that. Thanks for the visit....

Yes we are, John, perhaps the most beautiful blossoms are those that thrive in unexpected places. Thank you for the beautiful words...
