Time

Time had slipped away with love long before the love story ended
And so it was almost a thankful thing to be able to walk away
With no screaming or tears
No hatred left to linger and torment
Just a melancholic feeling of something that once was there
But no longer lived
Left only with lines on my face where none had been before
I left there and moved on with life
In search of what was to come next
But not really in any hurry for it to be a staggering love affair
I thought that last with a smile
Knowing that if one came along I would happily stagger under its load
For as long as time would have the weight on my shoulders
This last had ended with a whimper
But had lived once with a huge noise and a massive weight
And though slightly deafened
And bent a bit from love
I found that I was glad to endure
And happy to be sad
