I Can Tell When You Don't Care
Some people fall out of love,
‘I love you’ turns to just,
‘love you’.
You’ll notice the difference
His eyes don’t close when you kiss.
He never holds your hands
Unless you reach for his first
And he forgets to tell you…
Goodnight.
Even worse,
He forgets to wish you happy birthday.
Then he’ll stop asking you about
Your day but you’ll tell him anyway
But he won’t be listening.
He’ll slowly start to spend less time at home
And he won’t remember your favorite color
Because he’s busy memorizing someone else’s.

Over the years after my divorce, this became my litmus test. Unfortunately, no one passed.
So far that is.
It's very sad write of truth. As women, here in the south, we're always taught to leave the table gracefully when love is no longer served.
