Climbing To Be Let Down

She was leaving she said because I was bad for her
And so I gave her extra points for honesty
Since for once she hadn’t been one to say it was her fault not mine
Still in the end there it lay on the ground
Another fault of mine
Another barrier that I had to build myself up to get over
Just another broken heart to try to put back together
And find its beat once again
I know that I’m not the only one
Who can’t just go on like nothing has happened
But I’m the only one who it hurts when it happens to me
So the barrier sits and threatens to get larger
To eat away at my self worth more each day
Something to take away my pride
And it always takes me a long time to find the strength
To step over it and move on
But I do in the end God help me
I do
And I wait for the next excuse to lay that barrier down
In front of me once again
I wonder how high it will be next time
But I go on
Just climbing up to be let down
