Pale, Paltry

I stare at the burning candles.

I stare at the wax melting from the blue flames
Not unlike the way the men and women
Melt
From your ink.

I stare at it.

I am stripped beside you,
And I sink more and more,
At the way I cling to you -
At the way my words are too weak -
Just the billowing smoke from your fingertips.

I try to capture shadows...
I try to grasp the feeling of a dream.
The kiss from a wish,
The colors from a scene of artful
And deathly,
Breathy,
Desires.

I don't know them.

So I stay tucked in white covers.
Do not look at my face -
Graceless.

I lend this wrist, these fingers,
This body of mine,
(Theirs, more sublime)
This raven hair,
To the undulation of time,
To the beat in each rhyme,
To poetry.

In each word, I disappear.
