With Doubt

If cancer were a dancer
could I call it
and find my lightest shoes
for a joined battle

Striking blows in concert with
memories of my parents and friends
and the knowledge that a conquest
would be received favorably
in ways political activity never can

If war was a song
I would examine it's complexities
chorus and verses
and highlight it's presence
channel my inner Mozart, Ellington and McCartney

As Shakespeare said about all
"falling in love with night
and paying no mind to
the garish sun"
my composition would compel
all to study peace

My bravado assumes uncertainties
deficiencies of the individual
and collective
but my conflicts stay in my
cerebral cortex...mostly
