And She(?)
This is buttercream colors that cover me
Sweet, dotted, and swirled
Flowers on my skin, shells, letters,
Through metal piping tips
This is song.
This is the rainbows of balloons above me
Round and airy
Floating
To go pop, pop, pop
This song.
And you
Come to me with those eyes
Taunting and it terrifies.
I do not know you from Eve nor Adam,
But the body
Hums familiar
The body hums unknown
And blood rushes to my cheeks,
These traitors.
Dear God, look away!
But you sit with me
Under stars
Swing with me.
And if you said you'd like to pull these stars down,
Make a blanket out of the sky,
I'd probably join you
Under.
'It was the apple, bitten and shy,'
I say
'It was the hair I wanted to steal - long when I was 11,
Shorter now, and something I want to run my
Fingers through
Instead.'
'It was the hurt; it was the her I see in you.'
But if those fingertips spark this skin -
If the rhythm rattles this body, this heavy heart -
But if the pink of those lips stain mine -
I don't think I'd mind.
I think…
I think I'd like that.
