DREAMS
He prayed for his children
And for the woman he left them with
And he prayed for the woman he loved
And though he wasn't supposed to cry
That night he did
Let our tongues touch
Before our words divide us
For our skins met before we did
Feverishly
Staining their sheets
With the perfume of their fucking
No food for feed
Except on each other
The sight of the other beautiful in sleep
Deep slow deep
And though he thought he couldn't cry
That night he did
The sum of a man is his dreams
The stories he tells himself over
Of who he once was and where he is going
This is the lodestone
Around which he forms his world
There is nothing without his dreams
The past and soon forgotten
Rotten corpse of the hoped for
Prides that stumbled then humbled us all
Crumbling ruins of all we tried for
So see the dream
Any dream so long as it's with her
Let our tongues touch
Before our words divide us
For our skins met before we ever did
And in her dream
He dreamt
He cried
And for the woman he left them with
And he prayed for the woman he loved
And though he wasn't supposed to cry
That night he did
Let our tongues touch
Before our words divide us
For our skins met before we did
Feverishly
Staining their sheets
With the perfume of their fucking
No food for feed

I absolutely adore this piece 💓
Your words cascade beautifully...speaking of love, want and need.
"Let our tongues touch
Before our words divide us
For our skins met before we ever did "
....truly breathtaking.

I'm in awe of this poem, Whale!
It's a stunningly beautiful write.
That chorus is well breathtaking to say the least.. The imagery in the content is lovely as well. That opening pierced through the life in my veins like a sharp needle and it held on... And then like an angel in the night you bring light and turn his hardest life moments and deep set tears into living dreams and dreaming them. The contrast is absolutely stellar. Thank you for this it most definitely is a favourite for me.

Re: Re. DREAMS
thanks so much Al - I have been very much struck by the choices made in a life and their seeming importance and often arbitrariness or their actual importance and seeming arbitrariness and this thing called love through it all.

Dear Whale,
I have goosebumps! This what you write is so full of life and meaning.
Stunning my fellow writer, just beautiful...
The sum of a man is his dreams
The stories he tells himself over
Of who he once was and where he is going
This is the lodestone
Around which he forms his world
Your words threw me to the ground leaving me gobsmacked!
In the list.
Zazzles :)

Gorgeous and penetrating. Bravo. I am reminded of an hbo television series I caught a few episodes of when I was sheltering in Petersburg Virginia, during and after the storm, called Westworld. In it, the main architect of the fantasy world says, People know who they are. What we grant them is a glimpse of what they could be.
