Lonely Piano
my soundboard
is silenced i need
your hands to bring
back to life my music
would you revive the
ivories of my frame
and smooth my
ebony manes
everyone left
i am by myself in
this forsaken place
once there was bliss
fortune and ecstasy
now it’s just silence
and abandoned keys
would you wipe off the
dust and quietly play me
i’m longing to moan in music
is silenced i need
your hands to bring
back to life my music
would you revive the
ivories of my frame
and smooth my
ebony manes
everyone left
i am by myself in
this forsaken place
once there was bliss
fortune and ecstasy
now it’s just silence
and abandoned keys
would you wipe off the
dust and quietly play me
i’m longing to moan in music

Re. Lonely Piano
I'm not sure if the image inspired you or if you wrote the poem first and found a complimentary image but....Wow! It was perfect! The picture to me was the focal point. It's imagery was just that powerful and telling. The ink actually framed and matted the story! A lovely story I might add... Good luck in comp.

Thank you so much, dear Rain!
Well... a picture inspired the poem, but not this picture! The host gave 12 pictures to choose from and a picture of keys covered in dust inspired this piece! In the end I wanted another one and all of a sudden I remembered having this one on my computer... I thought it suited perfectly and I'm glad you agree :-)

*Oh, my* ... Two things I admire about his piece: One, the lament, the sound of one key within a constant tear drop; two, the ending ... *whoa!* ... just fucking *whoa!* ... love to you, Beautiful and this piano piece ... ~Devlin.

Lady Devlin, thank you so much!
You make me smile big time with your enthusiasm and your beautiful words... the sound of one key within a constant tear drop, now that is whoa :-)
So glad to hear you loved the ending!
Love to you...

Re: Re. Lonely Piano
Thank you so much Todski, for calling this piece gorgeous!
I appreciate your feedback! I wrote it that way because first: I wanted the 'everyone' to stand out and second: the shape!
I still find it hard to let that go and I don't see that happening in the near future as well ;-)
Having said that... I agree with you that putting 'everyone left' on one line, gives it more punch (learned that word from you) and I came up with this solution, which will leave the shape in tact! What do you think?
everyone left
now I’m by
myself in this
forsaken place

I had the same hang-up on that section.
I think your solution works well with the desire to clarify your thought and keep your shape intact.
Overall, this is an effective use of metaphor to communicate solitude and longing.

The thing that jumps out at me as a reader first is your mastery of the vernacular. The intelligent use of vocabulary as you weave a fabric of elegant words makes this an attractive write indeed. You write with such depth, such feeling. I hope that whomever judges this can see as I do how deeply personal this ink is as they make a choice. This is simply stunning Duende.....
.....and I'm stealing your image too. Fantastic !

Thank you so much, MrM!
You write with such depth, such feeling > this is by far the most beautiful compliment you (or anyone else) can give me! This piece is indeed very personal and vulnerable and though I didn't win the competition I am proud of this one and that's the greatest price :-)
Glad you love the picture, it's one of my favorites!
Thank you for the music :-)

Absolutely breathtaking. 💓
I adore everything about this write.
The imagery is so very potent, the expression is flawless, and the aching emotion is so very intense.
The pic truly brings it all to life.
Well done.

Duende, hauntingly beautiful to coin a phrase, causing me to want to scoop "you" up and dust "you" off to reveal the beauty that is "you"...loneliness dissipates when one is happy living with just themselves...at least I think so...gorgeous write...good luck in the comp!

Love the piano imagery and metaphor in this awesome piece!
Makes me want to go to my living room and makes some noise on my keyboard...
You've inspired a new poem...

Fine work Duende. The piano is a difficult instrument to play but so rewarding. Mind if I try some "Moonlight Sonata"?
