~i'm feeling it~
*
the journey before me
has been a long perilous one
walking through the fire
I am burned being born anew
the ashes my war paint
wearing it with pride
*
picking myself up when I fall
sojourning onward, homeward
*
the scars marking my flesh
badges of honor
they tell I've lived
that I survived to tell the tale
*
drugs, whoredom
it's made me who I am
made me stronger, more compassionate
the call of the streets still thrums in my heart
feeling for those that still traverse those paths
it's cold comfort when your pimp's
Sadistic love is all you have
*
still hopscotching through the past
watching for the pitfalls of today
I travel on hoping not to get tripped up again
drugs still call my name, alcoholic I feel it
*
the tombstones of where I've been
all scrawled with my name
there I died and yet I live

Newborn skin is so tender...everything is more intense, I think. The rebirth of self seems so much akin to that. Wear those scars with pride. You are still here and you are beautiful. :)

thank you most kindly I think if we forget our past we are doomed to repeat it.. I thought after your comment that hopscotching was the wrong word but a psychiatrist would say it's a Freudian slip and is the just the right word as I am careless with my choices often forgetting past mistakes..
I deeply appreciate you Brandon..

As is your way...another great ink! As can be seen by the number of comments... Your words are allowing all of us to feel it! How else can we connect to one another on the deepest levels other than giving glimpses of our heartbeat? You do that so well. Maybe we can all feel a bit of the struggle for you so you can have some reprieve. Thank you again for letting us in in such a beautiful way.😘

Re: Re. ~i'm feeling it~
thank you graciously Eddie I kind of hate that I used the word hopscotching because it implies carelessness and it confronts me because I think I am careless of taking inventory of past errors and is probably the reason I keep making the same ones..
just thinking out loud..

This is a very indepth poem. It is you striking back at the devils which surround you, my friend. I guess I say, "I relate" a little too much, but I do relate to much of your poetry. Keep on churning out your soul, Brenda, it is the only thing that will save you!

Love this inspiring write. 💓
So much depth and meaning.
Your strength truly helps others to overcome.
There is nothing like feeling anew.
Polishing the scars, smiling because you know you conquered..,and walking forward.
Beautiful piece, my friend.

the tombstones of where I've been
all scrawled with my name
there I died and yet I live
The Resurrection of Life. Imagine how many don't make it at all.
Yours is the testament to light, Dear Brenda. To Love and Hope
restored by virtue of belief in a brand new world. xo

You're alive and doing just fine Crim. I like how this begins with you rising like a phoenix. Then you speak of your scars, badges of courage from a very hard life. What didn't kill you has made you stronger although I don't think of Nietzsche as a role model. Your experience has found its way into your work and it's devastating. More fine work Crim. I'm feeling at least some of this too. .

This line says it all. You have a lot of fight in you and that is beautiful to see...

Absolutely fantastic write Brenda...
"I am burned being born anew "... The three Bs in this verse are an explosion.
It is so perfectly balanced the whole of it. This is so difficult to do it in an emotional self poem. Congrats!
Perfect melody and choice of words, it would be very nice in spoken poetry, i could hear you while reading it.
"the tombstones of where I've been
all scrawled with my name
there I died and yet I live"
I applaud you for this last stanza...! Itīs like you prove that there is life after death ("Life after death" would be a nice title for the poem)! ;)
I love it! Love the way you deal with "it" too. Keep on the good job, you should feel proud.
Kiss,
Art

This is one of my favorite poems from you so far. It's an open door right into you. It's direct but it's not raw. It's fluid, almost delicate. It reads how I imagine writing in cursive should be read. With an elegance that is held above and appreciated over whatever darkness it is the writing reads. If it's ok with you I'd like to write a poem off of this. Your words have inspired me!
