Love's revelation
The realisation has at last dawned on my dull and tardy mind
That you have given me your heart wholly without reservation
To the exclusion of all others. How could I have been so blind
That I could fail to see the profound depth of your adoration
The bounteous gift of love. Forgive me for being so unkind
To doubt the sacrifice you have made without equivocation.
These poor lines are all I have to give, but in them I hope you'll find
True recompense, and of my sincerity a confirmation,
Thus am I restored, and all doubts forever to the dust consigned.
Sweet lady, loveliest of all women who on this earth do live,
Supreme in your radiant goodness, rulest thou within my breast,
Silencing every doubt and fear. Though men and gods against me strive,
Safe within your tender embrace, contented will I ever rest,
Secure against their dark slanders. But there is nought of mine to give
Sufficient to repay such generosity, your very best,
Sincerely offered with ne'er a backward glance, so will I contrive
Solemn oaths to enfold you in their warmth, that on your soul impressed,
Sole guardian of your heart will I be, love that will death outlive.
Dearest lady, you are my illumination in the darkest night,
Distillation of qualities of heart and soul uniquely rare,
Dull indeed would be the man who failed to warm to your shining light.
Deluded too, are those fools who claim that such good beyond compare
Does not exist in this harsh world of selfishness and hateful spite.
Dear architect of my delight, I would all other joys forswear,
Daring to contend with all demons that my happiness would blight.
Deep within the haven of your abiding constancy and care,
Despair is banished, and on wings of love my carefree soul takes flight.
That you have given me your heart wholly without reservation
To the exclusion of all others. How could I have been so blind
That I could fail to see the profound depth of your adoration
The bounteous gift of love. Forgive me for being so unkind
To doubt the sacrifice you have made without equivocation.
