Father

 It’s a sad, sorry situation
He’s just like his father before him
Spent half his life drinking
The other half whoring

I tell you this for your own good

Not to cause you harm
Not to cause you pain
I just don’t want you
To turn out, just the same

I tell you this for your own good

I tell you this straight from my heart
So you don’t become a cantankerous old fart
A man full of fear
A man full of hate
The horse has not bolted
We still can shut the gate

I tell you this for your own good

It’s not yet too late
He doesn’t have to be your fate
Choose to be different
Just choose to be you
You don’t have to repeat his history
You don’t have to just make do

I tell you this for your own good

You’re already well defined
You need to break the ties that bind
And whatever you see him do
Do the opposite through and through
He’s your father and that’s the shame
Just don’t be like him, don’t join his club

I tell you this for your own good
So you don’t turn out like him
So you don’t turn out no good
