Rumbling On
The thunder rumbles on; he holds her close;
Her head pressed to his chest, so that it fits
And he can keep her safe there, as she slows
Her breathing, in an embrace, as time knits
These moments into minutes, while his arm
Wraps round her shoulders, so her head is bowed
Beneath his chin; abandoned in the calm
That comes before the stormy rain-filled cloud
Can reach across the comfort of this time
Together, with the raindrops pelting down
To dampen all the ardour and incline
Them both to running – let the lightning crown
