Saw the fires burn-out in your
eyes; one by one they
faded-out until they,
slowly being of the
life-giving oxygen
depleted...

smothered and died

The old ballad from by-gone
days gone by implores to...

"Keep the Home Fires Burning,
 While your Hearts are Yearning"

But now, I look into your eyes
and no longer see the Home
Fires-a-burning no, the embers
are no more even there aglow

Only the ashes of a conflagration
that was once raging there
remains and, the visible
damage on an covering
defaced by the intensity
of smoke-damage is
clearly seen

Yeah, the face once enlightened
from within through the candle
of the soul by a love so pure
has become ashen and now,
is the incarnated visage of a
pyre so, let the violas of the
heart sing their mournful
heart-song of a love long
gone by-by...

Of a by-gone time when the
home-fires in your eyes so
brightly burned; but now,
