Nothing Ever Really Stays
She’s learned that nothing ever stays the same
And he has taught her just how life’s behaved,
Being far less than easy; while each grain
Of understanding gleaned is to be craved;
With her hand on his chest, she feels the beat
Of his heart ever steady while he slept
And with her other hand she dares to treat
The gentle man who stayed awake;
He kept
Her company and more through early hours
When had he been asleep she would have mourned
The absence of insistence that empowers;
The real pleasure that, she’s learned is formed
Through intimacy and the shared refrain
As nothing ever really stays the same.
And he has taught her just how life’s behaved,
Being far less than easy; while each grain
Of understanding gleaned is to be craved;
With her hand on his chest, she feels the beat
Of his heart ever steady while he slept
And with her other hand she dares to treat
The gentle man who stayed awake;
He kept
Her company and more through early hours
When had he been asleep she would have mourned
The absence of insistence that empowers;
The real pleasure that, she’s learned is formed
Through intimacy and the shared refrain
As nothing ever really stays the same.
