Tree of Life
Spring storms, flash bulbs
of paparazzi lightening
illuminate silver linings
of silhouettes clinging
to their branched life.
Thunder rolls in, crashing
against silence, vibrating
limbs with applause; spindly
fingers littering debris and
blossoms across the grass.
A dogwood’s leaves bend
in prayer, baptizing meaning
from their dripping tongues;
drops unknot, disperse as ants
into their burrowed nests.
Clouds dissipate, leave
residual aftermath wilting
under an emerging heat.
Gardens double in growth;
Flowers thrust their chest.
The same power that splits
the trunk sustains the root,
that conduit of continued
growth, rebirth refusing to
relinquish survival to death.

Filled with colors, smells, light, sound and sensation! Lovely and alive. And forcing the reader to feel the last line before we even read it. Powerful writing.

"The same power that splits

Amazing. Elemental poem indeed. I read the word "branched" in the first stanza like "branch-ed" seemed to flow that way. ahaha namaste. :)

This speaks throughout me wholly .
No words, I want to just absorb a
moment or two. Very beautiful and
crushing.

great intricacy and flow to this piece with too many delightful pieces of metaphor to mention them all, but my favorite was the ending and discussion of rebirth and that same force....science is now confirming what the mystics have said for 4000 plus years...it's all vibration, one intelligent energy connecting it all like yin/yang and on the most subtle level all is connected...and great metaphor to the person as a whole piece, as it seems we die a bit to ourselves each day, sometimes each hour, to go through a transformation of rebirth in that continuing struggle for survival...superb writing Ahavati...
